The reply usually is that byobu is a private discussion extension and not really a private message system.
It's not nice to see private discussion listed in all discussions without the ability to hide it.
Maybe in the future will be considered this but byobu is a complex extension so maybe it's hard to touch the code and hope some implementation like this will be done.
