girefko I did this as part of a private extension for a client in the past.
The challenge is that you need to either keep the "dropdown" style nativation there but it becomes less intuitive, or you need to move the (originally side-) navigation elsewhere. Otherwise there's no way to access the Tags page, Follow, etc.
The first solution might be achievable with CSS. the second definitely requires an extension.
