Install flarum locally for test

Hi, thanks for providing a great opensource forum, recently I tried to migrate from freeflarum.com so I wanted to test installing first on my local Ubuntu PC running 20.04.

However, after following this tutorial https://www.vultr.com/docs/how-to-install-flarum-forum-on-ubuntu-20-04, I could not enter the admin setting interface and it shows like this

Not Found
The requested URL was not found on this server.

Apache/2.4.41 (Ubuntu) Server at localhost Port 80

How can I solve this issue and get it run locally on my pc? Thanks!

I did this with xampp, worked perfect.

Does the Flarum homepage work?

The guide you linked shows how to setup Flarum using a VirtualHost, not a subfolder. Personally I use VirtualHosts for local development (like flarum.localhost) but it might require some custom DNS configuration.

If you're installing in a subfolder, the official installation steps should suffice. You can follow the "Customizing paths" instructions to remove the public folder https://docs.flarum.org/install/#customizing-paths
