Possibility to send a private welcome message automatically

Hello,

I don't find anything about it in search, so maybe i doesn't exist: is there a function, or an extension, to send an automatic private welcome message inside Byōbu (or maybe Whisper if it comes back, but less practical) to any new user after their registration?

The idea would be to send a message easily accessible and easy to find for newcomers, in which I could sum up to them all the links to the topics with rules, the topic with help to edit messages, the topic in which they can introduce themselves, etc.

There is the welcome banner for that, but it will be quickly closed by user (who can't come back to it afterwards), and it wouldn't be very ergonomic to keep it on top constantly.

Does such a thing exists? And if not, would it be a possible fork extension for Byōbu?

Something like that doesn't exist. It could be build and, if you allow my advice, could just be another extension that requires Byobu to be installed. No fork is needed.

Have you tried this though?

Create a Byobu Private Discussion with yourself and the permission group Members
Assign a tag that allows replies only by yourself.
Optionally sticky it.

This might make the discussion available to all members, those that read it will automatically see it disappear down the stream. This solution would not be very personal, I think - eventually - I'd prefer something like more personal as you proposed.

luceos could just be another extension that requires Byobu to be installed. No fork is needed.

In fact I thought "fork" was the name for that (an extension based on another). 😅

That seemed to be the solution, but it doesn't work, but maybe because problem on my side:

None of the puppet users I made for testing the forum receive the message if i put "members" as receivers - even if "members" is proposed in the possible receivers field (they only receive the message if I tag their name directly).
I find no way to put a tag on a private discussion.

This also sounds like something that @askvortsov AutoModerator could do together with Byōbu, but maybe it's too complex for an action? Not sure.

I actually had something like this that used Byobu, but it was further extended to personalise the message based on your registration role.
I might see if I can fix that up and release it as-is 🙂

I see you decided to leave the project, so maybe it's not the case (and being on freeflarum, i would have to wait for the extension to adopted there anyway), but if not don't hesitate to share, I'm sure it's a functionality that would help a lot of people !

TB54 mine was built into reg roles for the specific requirements of my site but I’ll see what I can sort
