Also agree. But this is not about them. Look: company starter lands on Blomstra page, sees its pricing ( starting from 49 eur ) and, guess what s/he does ( I mean statistical, newly created company owner)? Just walks away. To some company that offers exactly the same for 1/12 this much money.

That was my point, he wasn't making enough profit to be in a position to outsource or hire help based on the business model you described. He was over-worked and had another IT job to make ends meat.

anonymousDev I'm curious that with your advanced knowledge you would even consider using Blomstra... or even talk about DO droplets, didn't you say that in your company you have your own servers? Just host it there, install Flarum, don't waste your time!

I think it's time to accept it, because you've been on the same topic for three days, this discussion is going nowhere, beyond complaining about the same thing, the Blomstra price, many users have already given their opinion contrary to yours here and everything is fine, but what more do you want?

A company like Blomstra or any other can set the prices they want, tomorrow if they want they can change the plan from 49€ to 120€ and that's it, nobody is forcing you to do anything, even less to buy it. We are talking about Flarum a software that you can install even in a shared hosting for $2 a month and in many free random hosting, apart from freeflarum of course, I don't think the problem here are options, if you have the knowledge you are completely free be happy.

Of course I said it. Also: nowhere did I say I use DO droplets. I just compared offering of two companies.

"Smallest" Blomstra plan is 49 eur/mo or $52/mo. its 588 euro/$629 for 1 year.
"Smallest" droplet of DO is 4,67 eur/mo $5/mo.

Quick math: one payment for Blomstra would be enough to have smallest DO droplet for 125 months. Thats ......more than 10 years.

Unless my maths is way off, which I'm pretty sure it is not.
49 / 4.67 = 10.4925054

So one month payment of €49 is the same as 10.4 months at €4.67. 10.4 is a long way from 125.

anonymousDev With every comment you make it even worse, I think if you don't know how to distinguish a VPS (Droplet) from a managed hosting we have nothing to talk about. But before I personally leave this thread for good let's review a bit what the alternatives to Flarum do that are also open source (you can host yourself) and offer managed hosting:

Software 1: $100/mo
Software 2: $250/mo

Those are their cheapest ranges available, alternative 1 ($100/mo) I can tell you offers harder usage limits than what Blomstra uses at its lowest tier. So I'll leave you to it, I think you have a lot of work to do cussing those prices.

I've read it again.

You are putting monthly figures for both, and then add a yearly figure only for one of them. Then the following statement implies that one is a massive multiple of times more expensive than the other.

On a month by month or year by year comparison it is 10.4 times more expensive, so the "125 months" has no reason to be there and is just sensationalist and misleading.

EDIT2: Look at their usage limits and compare them with one offered by Bloomstra........

Ive not been ridiculed, my ( as it came up later on not only mine ) thoughts were taken seriously............. See the difference?

Just to make myself crystal clear: I have nothing against Flarum, I seriously think its great software, I appreciate it was released under MIT. What troubles me is Bloomstra pricing.
I also fully understand ( and am for ) monetizing own creations, there is nothing wrong with it. But prices must be set at reasonable level.

Through a SMTP relay server I'd imagine.

Honestly your complains are bullshit. Worry about the quality of the service, not the cost.

girefko You can literally install Flarum for FREE on a shared hosting plan and cost you €5/month to run a successful community.

If they're running the emails through an SMTP relay server. I haven't kept up with the state of most shared hosting, but this was never a standard feature for shared hosting... some hosts will have it, but most probably don't. It means they have to monitor for abuse, and they may have to literally use a third-party service like Mail Channels. Really on shared hosting Forum hosting should be its own thing.
