Create a kit in the font awesome console, choose webfont. Insert the url that looks like this https://kit.fontawesome.com/<number>.js into the extension settings page.
Sometimes you also need to clear the cache if you just installed the extension or when you changed the kit url.

If you add this as well as the extension setting change, you will cause your page to try to load the kit twice. Thus making your page load slower.
