Newbie looking at how to implement Flarum for my idea...

Looking for some advice on implementing Flarum for my idea of a product catalog for a popular simulation game.

My constraints at the moment is the following...

Searching within tags only works by searching first and then selecting a tag. If you select a tag first, then search, it cancels out the tag.
There is only one subcategory allowed - ideally I would like 2 or 3 levels to separate the base game and then the products' category.

Other than that I see Flarum as a huge potential for myself and various other projects I have in mind. I just hope I don't come across rude with this post, but I have been wasting an entire day flicking around Wordpress, Flarum and various other forum software (Discourse in particular) to host the product catalog.

I am not the brightest person when it comes to coding, so please understand that I may need to ask further questions involving code.

This sounds like a bug.

I once had a little extension that worked as a proof of concept, but it didn't work problem free. In hindsight, in most situations, deeper nesting really isn't necessary and makes things harder on users as well. I can't judge on your use case, so the honest answer right now is, this isn't possible out of the box.

So as a user, such as yourself, if you were trying to find a product inside a catalogue would deeper nesting be difficult or the way Flarum is, at the moment, simple enough to for the user to search and find without getting confused?

Hope that made sense.

I think the best of way putting it is my idea of a product catalogue would be trying to use Flarum as a Wiki for DLC and then a discussion board for anything else.

The Taxonomies extension might be of interest to categorize "discussions" using various criteria https://discuss.flarum.org/d/30499-flamarkt-taxonomies

I can't really recommend counting on that option since it probably won't be released anytime soon still, but I have a very slow work in progress on an extension called Flamarkt https://discuss.flarum.org/d/28059-flamarkt-its-not-here-yet It's meant to create an e-commerce, but the catalog feature can be used without enabling any purchase option as well. In fact the catalog part is mostly finished, but there is still no official way to test it at this time.

I'll keep myself updated on the progress. Sounds promising! Although looking at it further if I were to continue using Flarum setting up the site using discussions, will there be a possibility of merging said posts over to products for the upcoming extension?

callumhaynes97 Flarum discussions and Flamarkt products are completely separate in the database, and transforming between the 2 wasn't a feature I was planning to add to the extension.

However, it wouldn't be very complicated to do it. Flamarkt products also uses taxonomies (they were made for Flamarkt first), so it's a simple matter of copying the existing data to a different database table. Even the products store their titles and descriptions in the same format as Flarum posts, so again it should be possible to copy the data over with only a few MySQL commands.
