I'm going to look into it asap. You can reproduce it with just a single backtick followed by any number of characters; The more characters you add, the slower it gets until the browser becomes unresponsive. That would indicate there's some sort of catastrophic backtracking occurring.
In the meantime, the workaround would be to type both lines of ``` and then type or copy/paste the code in-between.
