Twitter Login: An error occurred while trying to load this page.

Sorry if this isn't the correct forum but has anyone else had an error with the FoF Auth plugin on Twitter. I've set up my app correctly (I think) and when I try to login with twitter, it redirects me to a page that says 'An error occurred while trying to load this page.' after I login with Twitter.

Does anyone know how to resolve?

I know fof/oauth is setup for Twitter OAuth1.0a only (although I'm not certain why we don't use 2.0 at the moment, everything is in place to support it with just a few modifications). When you created your app at Twitter, did you check Request email from users? Also, the Client ID and Client Secret - ensure these are OAuth 1.0a keys, not OAuth 2.0

The option to request email is switched on, but it’s on oauth 2.0 and I’m unsure how to change it, or if you can? Can’t see any option on the developer portal at Twitter.

I remember the implementation being a pain because at the time oauth was moved from core extension to FoF, Twitter was the only provider that still didn't have a League OAuth 2 driver (it might have been not available on Twitter side either). This must be new in the years since then. There's probably a bunch of code that could be dropped in FoF OAuth if there are no longer any oauth1 drivers.

I don't remember seeing a 1/2 option in Twitter dashboard from my past tests.

Exactly this. I tried building the league oauth adapter for twitter at some point and they simply didn't have a version 2 compliant one.

chrisc297 on the developer portal, go to your app then click Keys and tokens. On that page, the first item is labelled Consumer Keys - these are the id/secret to use for OAuth 1.0, enter these in the fof/oauth settings for Twitter

IanM I regenerated the keys and used these but it’s still the same result unfortunately

Are you able to share anything relevant from your Flarum logfile about this? Usually this is found in {flarum_directory}/storage/logs/flarum{date}.log

Not wanting to be beaten, I just built a working one 🙂 It's a little rough around the edges atm, but as a PoC it does the job. I'm currently looking into seeing how best to integrate it into fof/oauth without causing the existing OAuth 1.0 to break. Watch this space...

IanM Sounds great! Can you update me here when this has been achieved? Apologies for the delay in responding, was late here when I was asking about this. I've checked the error log but can't find anything relating to this.
