Sending emails does not work

I have to hook in here as I am in the exact same problem for weeks.
Situation is:

a webserver serving different websites and emails (powered by Plesk)
installed is a WP currently (with WPforo)
emails on several accounts are working fine

I've installed Flarum on a test domain, emails didn't work. I've installed Flarum on a subdomain, didn't work. Now I installed it in the main domain (on subdomain) and emails doesn't work still.
I've tried mail() by default, it should work and it works everywhere but in Flarum. It shows "email was sent successfully" but nothing happens.
I tried with setting up my smtp account in Flarum settings, which is running on the main domain. I am sending emails with that account every day. It shows the shown above error about port 465 is not accessible. I tried tls and ssl as encryption.
I tried as sending domain my main account, like e.g. "me@domain.tld", I tried "me@forum.domain.tld" and all other things I could about. Nothing seems to work 🙁

So it does send without error? How does it also mention an error with port 465 if that's the case? If the test mail sends can you check your spam folder and your SPF records? Every mailbox service will block email from sources without sender verification DNS records. That's also why using a sender email different from the configured SMTP box will fail.

yes I am aware of that.
With method set to mail() it reports a "successfully sent" right away, with method smtp it takes like half a minute and then shows a red button about it went wrong. When I check the log then I can see the "timed out on port 465" error.
SPF is set up correctly, as said I am using the domain every day. It's nothing secret, just a hobby project. I just don't want to post the url in public here.

And a ps: In my first try on the test domain I have had installed a few extensions and also migrated my wpForo to Flarum. So I tried on the other domains with a plain Flarum, yesterday installed a new Flarum without any extensions and no migration. So it's a plain one in the most recent version.

This implies that your port is blocked. Either the outgoing one on the current server or the mail server accepts mail on another port. It's very likely the port is blocked on the current machine, many (cloud) providers tend to lock that to prevent spam sending abuse.

I understand what you trying to say. I can tell you, it's my own machine and the smtp settings are the same I am using in my local mail client for connecting and it works fine.
Samll Edit: I remember the test domain was on a different (=test) server, that's why I suspected something in the mail config. But now I am on the live server, just on a sub domain.

I've tested it all again, the same things... no mails are sent on any domain and on either way. I even tried an other external smtp server, same message about not reachable. Something seems really fishy.

trunky ping me on discord luceos#0001 so I can get to the bottom of this, and please do confirm with the server and your host that the outgoing ports are open.

To present a solution if anyone has a similar problem one day:

After a lot of testing, logging and writing some simple client I can report that the problem was/is that the smtp server has a ssl certificate of a different domain. Like abc.com was the certificate of the mail server and I tried xyz.com, which are both on the same server. And both works on the smtp server. But Flarum doesn't like the name on the certificate.

So when I changed my settings for mail server to abc.com then it works smoothly 🙂

trunky so Flarum, or rather the underlying mail package, decided not to connect to a server that had a malformed SSL certificate.. Okay, I'm happy 🙈

Not completely malformed, both abc and xyz.com have valid ssl certificates for the mail server. But the main domain, which is used to actually send emails, is abc.com.
I am happy too as long as everything works 🙂
