Difference between "php flarum cache:clear" & Admin cache clear?

Is there a difference between using php flarum cache:clear or the Admin flarum dashboard cache clear?

Wellwisher yes. The command php flarum cache:clear actually flushes all files in storage/formatter, storage/locale and storage/views in addition to what the admin cache clear does. This additional logic has been introduced by Toby in 2017 and it's yet unclear why this was done.

luceos could be because ease of accessessibilty. Admins can update their css using the portal and some times just clicking on a button if changes are not applied correctly helps.

luceos As an end-user with limited CLI knowledge, I think merging the same functionality for both commands would make it easier to flush all files in the dashboard instead of doing SSH then going to the root folder and typing php flarum cache:clear. It would be akin to a one-click flushall whenever the admin wants to clear the cache.

And maybe in the future, whenever there are extension updates, we could also do a one-click “upgrade” in the extension tab of the admin area that translates to composer update extension.

This is just my own version of well-wishing. 😀

Another thing worth noting is that if you connect to SSH using a different user than the web process runs as, the cache clear command will also run as different users which might not have the permission to create/delete files created by the other user. Ideally you should run both as the same shell user.
