How should WordPress extension work?

I'm thinking (repeat: thinking!) about create a WordPress extension for my own specific need. The way I think the plugin would work is that it will either run inside a page via short-code OR act as a standalone install which can be integrated with multi-site install. There might also be a use case that we replace default commenting system with Flarum.

I wish to know how do our fellow Flarumers want the WP - Flarum integration to work?

It should work like a wordpress plugin where user should seamlessly move between the flarum page and the rest of the website or posts. Shortcodes are important to embed flarum inside blog posts or pages. Shortcodes with feature to filter within categories would be useful.
There is an existing plugin anspress.io which does all the above but its not Flarum so waiting for flarum integration plugin.

I don't know how much experience you have with a JavaScript MVC framework, but it's incredibly complex to do what you're saying without using the API's already built in.
