Free Guest Login Extension

Email confirmation is disabled and guests are registered automatically and can begin posting with one click.

How it works:

Guests are really just users with automatically generated email and password. The extension checks if a guest already exists before creating a new one, otherwise it just logs in the same guest as the one that exists in the database (by an IP check). This is to ensure that one IP address cannot create multiple guest registrations in your user table.
An auth token is automatically issued and a new session is created.
Posts are limited to 3, but this can be changed as you wish. This is to incentivize guests to create a membership...eventually.
There is also a guest login throttler that issues a warning to the user to hold on for a bit before logging in again (the extension logs the guest's IP address). Currently there is no function to delete the newly registered guests in the user table. A cron job could execute this perfectly for those who want that additional functionality.
Works with latest Flarum release.

Just a quick and easy guest login that registers a new user with middleware. Make sure to have this for the icon to show in your "Edit Custom Header":

I'm assuming that a guest can use it to reply directly to a post?

Are there any administrative rights that can be adjusted? For example, that guest contributions have to be approved first? That they can write more than just 3?

If a guest registers afterwards. Will the posts then be attributed to his account or will they remain marked as "guest"?

A really great extension, I think some people have been waiting for it.

You can use something like app.forum.attribute('apiUrl') + '/guest' to automatically build an API URL that works on any Flarum configuration (including if the user renamed the /api path in config.php) 😉

Once a guest pushes the button, they create essentially a new user with the username Guest + random 4 digit string.

They have all the permissions of regular members as they are essentially users. If you log out as a guest and log back in, the extension will retrieve your existing guest registration as opposed to registering a new guest.

If a user registers with an actual membership it will not conflict with any guest registration. They can effectively toggle between the two to remain anonymous.

Any sort of tweaks with the post limit has to be done in the LimitGuestPosting.php file on line 34 (I have not introduced an actual setting in the admin console for this).

Hello!
I saw that this extension is from 2023 and I think that it is still working because I didn't found anyone complaining about that. However, I will like to know if it is gonna be compatible with Flarum 2.0 because the repository has not been updated for more than 2 years.

If it will be updated, I will give it a try... but if I would have to uninstall it late, I prefer not to install it now neither.

SkakashiS The extension can be described as "working," but the source files are not available on GitHub. Moreover, it hasn’t been built with "npm run build" and comes with many vulnerabilities.

Using the extension is quite difficult, even on the 1.8.9 version, let alone version 2.0. As I mentioned, it doesn’t have the source files, and it runs with the "npm run dev" version.

I like the working logic of the extension, and I plan to add a few more features to it. However, it’s too early to announce anything for now.

I have rewritten the extension from scratch in a secure manner (inspired by its working logic).

At this point, I have completely rebuilt it here, but I have also added/planned to add additional features.

I am still continuing with my plans to update modern footer and other extensions. If someone considers sponsoring, I might release the extension as a beta version within a few days.

I was planning to wait a few more weeks before announcing this, but since the topic has come up, I wanted to share this update. Please do not reply to me through this discussion. You can contact me via Telegram; my username is the same.
