This is a subject I've thought about a lot since joining Flarum™.
At first I found it highly unusual that there's no grace period whatsoever.
I used to set a 15 minute grace period at my XF sites. Seemed fair to me.
However I'm now leaning towards the opinion that all edits should be indicated.
I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be..... unless to hide the fact.
But why would anyone want to hide the fact—except to hide whatever it was they edited, &/or they feel embarrassed.
When I see a post was edited, I don't judge or think any less of the author.
Because we all make mistakes.
No one is perfect.
And this practice of always indicating edited posts actually comes with a beneficial side effect too.
Non-edited posts increase in value.
Because we all know they've never been edited.
Frankly I'm of the opinion we ought to go even further than simply indicating edited.
I would like to be notified of edits just like new posts.
So we can be informed of any updated information.
This would allow us to do things like, eg: having entire discussions from the same posts.
How often does anyone bother reading hundreds of posts between the beginning and end of a thread?
😂 Very few I'd imagine.
All that information is basically lost. Buried under dozens of the same handful of posters posts.
It's wasteful, disorganized and lazy.
Alerts for edits could also potentially be a means of reducing the likelihood of "NecroPosting" too.
Whatever the case, I gave a vote for this proposal anyway, but I'm still leaning the opposite direction here.
