2.5 lakh likes for a single post

Today, I came across such a scenario in relation with another forum software. Someone was asking about a forum with around million posts having abundance of likes in individual posts. I guess that they might be using some plugin like " Like to view the content " or something. But the query was intended to know whether the particular forum software support such an inflow of like to an individual post.

Thought of checking the same scenario with Flarum.

This is likely limited simply by the value of the database field for the like count. Flarum uses an INT field for Likes, which has an unsigned (basically meaning no negative values are allowed) capacity of 4,294,967,295. That's roughly 4.3 billion Likes that a single post could have.

Let us pray we never see that.

The forum software I mentioned gave reply that they take only first 3 names in db. Rest are used as count or something like that. That way, they say, software can give infinite likes per post.

There is nothing like infinite in a database. There will be some limit, either in data types, or in physical storage.
Even if they store just counts, that will have some limit like @jordanjay29 mentioned.

Practically, we will never see that many likes, so they may call it infinite. But in theory, its not true.

meetdilip It's possible it does some field juggling for overflow numbers, or starts counting by scientific notation in order to accommodate a ridiculously large number. Flarum only uses INT and increments on a click of the like button, so it has a hard limit of 4,294,967,295. That's not to say someone couldn't write an extension that increases the capacity, but I'm not exactly sure it's necessary.
