Update:

I use Cloudflare and to use SMTP I have to configure my email DNS records to a different IP than the VPS that hosts my forum. I believe this could be the cause of the problem. I managed to get the email to work using the mail driver and changing the DNS (Cloudflare) records for the email to the same IP as the VPS that hosts my forum.

I was using SMTP without any problems. But my community needed private messaging. So, I installed the extension Byōbu by FriendsOfFlarum

After installing the extension, users noticed that private messages were sent when they clicked reply, but the page did not refresh and the following error message appeared: "Oops! Something went wrong. Please reload the page and try again."

Messages and discussions created in the community were not affected after installing the extension Byōbu by FriendsOfFlarum, the problem only occurred with private messages.

Unfortunately, I had to change the email driver from SMTP to mail to fix the error message in private messages. For this, my CloudFlare is configured as shown in the image below:

I would like to go back to using SMTP, because only with SMTP are all emails sent to the user's inbox. With drive mail, emails are sent, but end up being considered SPAM.

However, I don't know how to solve this problem, so I continue using drive mail until I find a solution.

EHRA Byobu nor Flarum directly impact the delivery success of your emails with SMTP. If SMTP worked before and you properly configured Flarum to use that SMTP then it should work without issue. Changing any DNS, SPF/DKIM etc is not necessary because the SMTP server would already have been part of that, hence it working before.

Are you able to reinstate your SMTP settings and identify what issues you experience in that scenario?

When I insert the SMTP drive, the error when sending a private message returns. SMTP configuration below:

In my case, I was not using SMTP but the standard mail driver in Flarum. It was triggering emails through my server's configuration correctly but it stopped working when I did a composer update for everything.

I am on Cloudways and use the Elastic email add on. Other applications on the same server are able to send emails.

Under Mail settings, Addresses has a value that does not align with the requirements of your SMTP provider. For instance the error given is when you use Gmail for SMTP, your mail address is flarum@gmail.com, but you use noreply@my-flarum-community.com under Addresses. The sender of the email does not match against the mailbox and hence the email is blocked.
