Help Installing an Old Forum

Hello,

My original plans to convert my IPB forum haven't quite worked so now using another pathway. However the migration script requires Flarum 0.1.0-beta9 to be installed.

I have tried this method:

But each time after downloading and changing the composer.json, I Install the forum, which installs but then it wants me to immediatley upgrade.

How can i stop it upgrading? I need to run the migration script before i update the forum!

JoZ3 Yes, no good. This other way gives better results but should give even better results if I can install beta9

Have you considered installing beta locally, completing the data conversion and upgrade before going online?
This was the approach I took when converting Discuz back in the day, as its conversion program was only suitable for beta.
I should have retained the installation package for beta 12. If it's applicable to you, let me know, and I can figure out a way to send it.

Subarist this is what I am trying to do.

I run the commands as seen above and then run the front end install but somehow in the composer installation part it’s finding itself needing an update which it only flags when installing it at the front end..

It’s possible to download beta9 as a zip but then it complains about the lack of vendor folder and hence the extensions.

How did you do yours please?

Jbugy I think I can understand the error you're encountering. I'm not a programmer, so I can't provide much help. However, I used a modified ZIP installation package, unpacked it directly for configuration without using Composer. Perhaps that's a key point.

The links below should be usable by directly unpacking the ZIP, but I didn't see beta9. beta12 has some fixes in the database; I'm not sure how significant the differences are. Maybe you could try beta7 or 12, and it might work.

It's difficult to say what's wrong from this info, but there shouldn't be any problem doing what you are attempting.

The process is like this:

Download old Flarum skeleton
Hard-code Flarum core and extension versions in composer.json
Install Composer dependencies
Install Flarum (through the wizard)
Install any extension you need
Do your migration

Don't use the Flarum installation wizard before having modified composer.json and installed the Composer dependencies, otherwise you would end up with the newer version of the Flarum database and Flarum cannot downgrade a database.

It might be simpler to download the skeleton as ZIP, modify composer.json and run composer install, that way you never install the newer version of Flarum at all (Running composer create-project then composer update even with the beta stability would temporarily cause the very latest beta of Flarum to be downloaded before being downgraded)

Also make sure you are running Composer v2, it handles updates and downgrade more smoothly. If you don't see any Composer error it doesn't really make any difference but it's one less thing to worry about if you are up to date with Composer itself.

I have tried flarum 12 and 16 with the same results. If i swap the "*" for "v0.1.0" then i get the update request once the webwizard is done.

What am i doing wrong?

I just tried it on Wamp.
It should be OK.
Are you missing some required PHP extensions?

Thanks that allowed an install after I switched to wamp but all the text is missing

E.g I have core.forum.header.log_in_link or core.forum.discussion_list.empty.text

Any ideas on those?

Have tried a different method. I have been able to "succesfully" import via the scripts into a complete fresh newest flarum possible, but whilst in stats and in the users it displays a number for posts and threads, none of these posts or threads are visible. I have tried clear cache to no avail. Any ideas what i need to do to make them see/visble? Same for tags, tags table has content, but nothing appears at front

I think it's just that the English lang is not included in the ZIP package and needs to be installed.
