📖 Introduction
Welcome to our newest community update. As some time has passed since the last CU, we want to give you an outlook on 2024. In Edition 8 of our community updates 2023, we featured an overview of what's happening next with Flarum. Feel free to skip back to this post in case you are interested. But now, let us move on to our newest update.
One significant step forward - and part of our 2.0 roadmap is the possibility of installing Flarum without the direct need for a composer - as well as the Extension Manager that allows updating, installing and removing extensions and core. A big effort tackled by @SychO!
To make the most out of this newly introduced extension, we would like to summarize how you can even further improve your Flarum experience:
📈 What's happening next?
You should follow our Dev Diary so you don't miss any critical updates. To give you a short summary: Core Developers are working hard on finishing off tasks for our 2.0 release of Flarum. The release is scheduled for 2024 - but we cannot give you an exact timeline at the moment. There are still quite a few tasks remaining that need to be tackled.
Besides development on Flarum, we are currently setting up our internal processes to enable the launch of our next-generation website—the details you can find in the last community update.
🤗 Friends of Flarum - how can you help?
Friends of Flarum is a rock-steady institution and the most important contributor to the Flarum ecosystem. This is part of the reason why the adoption of these extensions for Flarum 2.0 was added to the fund. @IanM has invested quite some time improving essential extensions like fof/anti-spam.
It's essential to raise awareness that only a few developers (or mainly @IanM) are currently carrying the weight of maintaining FoF extensions. So what could you do? Of course, adding developers to the pool of FoF maintainers would be ideal. But also financial support helps maintain those many extensions. You can find more information about this on the Friends of Flarum website: https://friendsofflarum.org/
There are also currently some ongoing bounties (seeking additional support) that are linked to FoF extensions:
Without your continued support, Friends of Flarum cannot maintain such a large number of complex extensions. As a quick reminder: FoF maintains extensions such as Upload, Byōbu (private messaging), anit-spam, OAuth, etc. We will continue to highlight Friends of Flarum in future community updates to raise awareness of this situation.
🏴☠️ Bounties,🔌 Extensions & 🇬🇧 Translations
Our community is very active in generating newProposals to improve Flarum. Also, there are many updates to existingExtensions, and new ones are created. We encourage you to check openBounty occasionally and see if there is a feature you are also looking for that might need just a little support to get realised.
If you are missing out on some translations in your desiredLanguages you can always head over to the Flarum Translation on Weblate and contribute some translations yourself! https://weblate.rob006.net/languages/.
