Image deduping on flarum

I do not believe flarum does any image de-duping at all
Maybe that'd be something planned for V2.
My forum has users that are likely to post the same image as each other+multiple times

I don't think an external dedupe would work? Unless perhaps it created an alias of the file so flarum didnt have to change any behavior (i'm not entirely sure whether you can alias a file)

Does anyone have any thoughts on how best to proceed?
its not the end of the world at the moment but i think it'd be a no-brainer for any site to desire

The easiest implementation would be to compare checksum of files, though depending on your use case this might be useless if the images look the same but aren't actually the same file (edited, reposted, forwarded, etc.). More advanced recognition is of course possible but it probably wouldn't be worth the extra resources this would require compared to just storing more files. Storage is cheap.
