Just an idea for an extension: it would be very nice if there was an extension that lets users chat with each other real-time. Not part of the core flarum, but as an extension.

thecodingwizard I could see it as an extension but:
1) I would never use a shoutbox.
2) Where on the forum would it go.
3) If you want real time I can't think of anything other than sockets to get it done.

More than likely going to happen. Most other forum software on the market have popular shoutbox plugins, so I it's safe to assume the same will get made here. However with websocket or Pusher implementation, threads will be much more seamless and interactive instead of just a static list of content that gets updated each time you reload the page. So that could potentially alleviate the need for a real time chat extension.

I know it's too soon to request it, but shoutbox is actually one thing almost everyone likes, and is very wanted addition to a forum. so yeah, i'm totally in with the idea. +1

ameo Cheun I was actually thinking about the current "Chat" link in the top menu bar.

It currently leads into gitter.im.

I was wondering if we could change it so that it leads into a different page on flarum that lists all the chat rooms ... etc.

anyway, of course that released version of forum won't have that links.
Instead you would probably code/insert your own.
And as far as chatting goes, did you try Rocket Chat?
I'd recommend it for real time chatting.

ameo I'm pretty sure it's obvious it wouldn't be in the released version. Doesn't take rocket science to figure that one out.

ameo IDK about Rocket Chat. I didn't really look into it, but since the landing page looks nice I suppose the rest is nice :-)

As for the muggle/coding wizard, IDK. It started as the coding eagle, and I made a website thecodingeagle.com but it terribly failed and is currently not working. Then I switched to the computer destroyer but that sounded too lame so now it's the coding wizard!

Oh do you have any suggestions for a coding name? I don't really coding wizard either.

Comet-chat (has everything you can imagine and desire) works beautifully with all forum software.

However, I was thinking something more like a chat room where you can go fullscreen chat. Something like gitter, but internally for Flarum.

But someone should implement Comet-chat as an extension!

yes you can go full screen chat with comet-chat
also its very easy to integrate this script

Because of ajax / live updates there was no need of a shoutbox with Esotalk.
As chatchat and also shoutbox I used ajaxchat (https://frug.github.io/AJAX-Chat/) with SMF before I moved to Esotalk.
