For some context on this proposal, you can check out the Staff Diary: v2.0 Cycle post about it.
Top-centered search bar
Given the new capabilities of the admin search, it makes a lot of sense to move its location to this more prominent area.
Search modal
To maintain consistency with the new forum search, the admin search will also be displayed from a modal.
The tabs will also be retained for design consistency and, of course, for potential extensibility. For example, one of the proof-of-concepts I considered was the inclusion of an additional "Users" tab that would allow searching for forum users from there, and even having the possibility to use quick actions by passing parameters to the /admin/users page.
To make more sense in relation to the mockups (maybe they are already updated in the images), I thought about changing the main tab from "All" to, for example, "General".
Let me know what you think about this!
Anchor links and quick actions
In most cases, admin search results will function as anchor links, redirecting the user to the particular administration area where the searched item is located, whether it's certain configuration parts, extensions, etc.
Quick actions will allow more advanced uses for the admin search. For example, passing parameters, the Extension Manager would be the first use case for this. So, if you don't find what you're looking for, such as an extension, you can check if there is any available extension to install directly from the search. This will redirect your query and show the results in the Extension Manager discovery.
This concludes the initial proposal. I look forward to your comments and suggestions to continue shaping and refining the details of this feature. Thank you 🙂
