Right now, I’m unable to clear the cache. When I clear it via SSH, it says successful, but it doesn’t actually clear. I have to manually delete folders inside the cache directory via SSH.

When I try to install or update a plugin through the admin panel, the site throws an HTTP 500 error, and it says there’s an error in the “site.php and autoload.php” files. When I run the composer update command, it installs the plugins and the site’s front end works correctly.

Currently, the database-queue plugin is installed, but when I try to activate it, I get an HTTP 500 error on /api/extensions/blomstra-database-queue, so I can’t enable it.

The Flarum front end is currently working smoothly, including the Gemini auto-reply plugin—everything is functioning without errors.

RSS is working without issue, transferring posts published on example.org to forum.example.org via API.

Every time I solve one problem, another one arises. Eventually, I end up restoring a two-week-old Flarum backup, and suddenly, all the problems are resolved. I then reinstall all the plugins, RSS API, etc., and everything works fine again. The database-queue plugin also works without issues.

After some time, when I update the plugins, Flarum itself gets updated from version 1.8.5 to 1.8.8. Everything works fine initially, but after a while, the issues I mentioned start to crop up one by one.

First, cache clearing in the admin panel stops working, then plugin updates from the admin panel stop functioning. Finally, when I run flarum info via SSH, it gives a “site.php” error, and the front end of the site also starts returning an HTTP 500 error.

Each time, I go back to a two-week-old backup. Sometimes, I don’t even install database-queue, but no matter what I do, as soon as I update to 1.8.8, the issues start appearing.

I have previously reported this issue in the database-queue plugin discussion and on the Flarum update page, but I still haven’t been able to resolve it.

I removed the plugin that allowed me to fetch RSS content via API, but I still have API errors.

There may be a misunderstanding, so I want to clarify. I am aware that the issue is not related to version 1.8.8. The problem is with the commands I execute over SSH being run as root, causing some files or directories to have root permissions.

I resolve some issues by changing the permissions of incorrectly authorized files back to user permissions. However, I still haven’t fixed issues like some API requests not working or being unable to install extensions from the admin panel.

English is not my native language, and I am not familiar with SSH terminology.

Again, I know this is not caused by Flarum, but I don't know how to fix it.

As a rule of thumb, in cli/commandline always run commands (including composer ones) as the web user. So, when your site runs as www-data, then use sudo -u www-data composer require <extension> etc. If you do this and chown all files and folders of flarum to www-data, you will never run into any file permission issues.

luceos Thank you for your response. Yes, what I was trying to ask is: "Would it cause any issues if I set all Flarum files to user permissions?"

Also, if I apply this, will it solve my issues with API errors and the inability to enable the database-queue extension? Could the API I'm using for RSS be causing the issue?

hf06 you need to get the other error messages from the log file or with debug mode enabled.

The only error message in your first post indicated file permissions issues.

If the file permissions were incorrect, it's very likely that Flarum was unable to log the actual errors of those other problems. Try again when the log file has the correct permissions and you should see the actual errors in the Flarum log file.

@luceos Yesterday, while working with the chown command, I accidentally broke the entire Plesk. Anyway, that’s not important; I set up my VDS from scratch and restored my backup. During this process, somehow the permissions for the folders and files got fixed. However, even though I had never used SSH, the newly created log file was generated with root permissions, so I changed the log file's ownership to the user using chown.

I found out why the Database Queue wasn't working. First, it needed to be enabled in proc_get_status, which I fixed. Then, an error appeared in SQL stating that the databases already existed. I deleted the tables related to the Database Queue plugin through phpMyAdmin. This time, it created the queue table but said the failed_queue table was missing. I manually created the failed_queue table, and now I was able to activate the Database Queue plugin.

It seems like there are no issues remaining now. When multiple problems arise, it becomes really difficult to resolve them. I believe that issues related to tables could be fixed with a validation mechanism added to the extension

@luceos I used the chown command to reduce cache files and all other files to user level. Afterward, I deleted all cache files. Initially, the newly created cache folders are at the user level, but at some point, they start being created with root-level permissions. Besides using chown commands, I didn’t use any root commands via SSH. A similar issue occurs with log files as well. Not every day, but on some days, the log files also switch to root-level permissions, and then I start getting errors indicating that the log file can’t be modified.

I would appreciate any insights or help.
