Avatars as extension?

I would like to know If the avatar feature will be an extension too? I would like my future flarum forums to be very minimal.

Avatars will be in core, but you'll easily be able to hide them using CSS.

Toby Hiding them wouldn't decrease loading time as the avatar code and the avatars itself would be loaded anyway.

If one could switch off some of the core elements, that would be great. A feature packed core but nevertheless very customizable.

Not if the users haven't uploaded any avatars! Use CSS to prevent users from ever being able to upload, then there will be no images to load.

rookietect I'm certain Chrome and think Firefox don't bother loading images until it knows they are displayed in some way.

It will be possible by extension to disable avatars completely or for certain groups of users?
Not just turn off ability to upload an avatar image, but also the generation of any avatars on the page (including generated "avatars" like I have atm)?

For example: I would like to see an avatars only for the forum's staff (adm, mod, cm's) and for a some group of members, but only if they have uploaded image.
