Hi everyone
After getting input from @luceos on my last thread, I’ve realised how critical it is to handle my current setup cautiously. One wrong move here or there, and I risk jeopardizing my entire production environment. That’s a situation I’d rather avoid at all costs.
I’m relatively new to working with GitHub in this context. While I understand the basics of Git and version control, I’m unsure about properly setting up my code repository and integrating it with my hosting without risking overwriting files, breaking the forum, or disrupting other services. Here’s where I stand:
I have a GitHub account and understand the need to create a private repository to keep everything secure.
All my current files are on my hosting server, and I’ve also backed them up to my local machine.
My hosting supports Git access, but I’m unsure how to connect it without inadvertently overwriting files or causing conflicts.
The stakes feel high, and experimenting directly on my production server isn’t ideal. I’d greatly appreciate:
• A step-by-step guide or detailed instructions on how to safely set this up.
• Alternatively, if anyone is experienced with this and willing to assist directly, I’m open to hiring for a paid gig. I can provide RDP access to my laptop so I can observe the process, take notes, and better understand how to manage future changes.
The goal is to minimize risk while learning how to confidently integrate GitHub with my hosting setup. Let me know your thoughts, advice, or if you’d be willing to help with this. I’m all ears!
Thanks in advance for your support!
