Hovercards for Mentions

I propose integrating Flarum's mention system with hovercards. I believe it would be beneficial to display hovercards when hovering over a mentioned user (e.g., @huseyinfiliz )

Now, when you click on a mentioned user, it send you to another page, and frankly, that's pretty frustrating, so your solution makes a lot more sense 🙂

Wlork First, since the mention extension is part of Flarum, I believe we should wait for their feedback.

I had proposed making the hovercards mobile-friendly, as seen in Popover User Card for Mobile
. If they decide not to include it in the mention extension, I plan to combine these two ideas into a separate extension.

huseyinfiliz I think this would make sense honestly. It's a nice addition to the mentions extension. Just remember mentions is no longer just about mentioning users, but also tags and groups. If implemented, all would require a card and currently groups has no public information like a description.

luceos Member tagging and group tagging don't work the same way. We don't necessarily have to include group tags. What do you think?

Think about Twitter — in fact, Flarum's member and group tagging system is quite similar.

The @ symbol is used for mentioning members, while the # symbol is used for groups/tags.

When we look at Twitter, hovering over member mentions shows a hovercard, whereas hashtags don't have that.

For tags it would still make sense to introduce a card as well. On discuss it could reduce the need to explain why it was linked, egTest Posting for testing posts andProposals for new feature requests. Imo groups doesn't even link, it's just a html element.

I would be okay with an implementation for the user mention first though. Just not sure what the rest of @Core Developers think.

luceos Of course, including member groups or tags (categories) would be great, but hovercards for members are already a built-in feature in Flarum and require almost no extra effort to enhance.

Hovercards already appear when you hover over usernames in discussions, so I believe it can be easily integrated to work within the Mentions extension as well.

huseyinfiliz I see where you're coming from. Hovering over a mention during a reply makes the original post bounce. Hovering over the profile picture already pulls this information. I wonder if it's just a matter of copy and pasting the same call function to reflect the same information. I am limited when it comes to changing code for sure, but I don't think this would be that difficult / confusing to use at all.
Alternatively, if they want to implement the Groups and Tags as well, I can see it useful where the description of the Tag is hovered and for the Groups, just have a hover card displaying "### are currently online."

Maybe out of scope, but personally would love a hover card for groups, with a description for the group, number of users in group, maybe with a preview of X members profile pics. Maybe in the future though for 2.x.

Btw husey, tagging groups also use @ just like users.
