I accidentally became a forum admin… and I kinda like it

So I installed Flarum thinking "eh, this looks cool." A few weeks later and somehow I’m running a whole FORUM. I didn’t expect to learn this much. Linux commands, extensions, theming, breaking stuff, unbreaking stuff... you name it.

Flarum made it surprisingly doable for someone like me. I’m just a hobbyist, but I’ve learned so much and actually had fun doing it. Huge thanks to everyone in the community. Specially to these 3. @KBExit @luceos @clarkwinkelmann

I got aquestion though, do you think it’s possible for someone like me to actually get a job doing this kind of thing?

We have seen people get careers in development after starting out with flarum extension development. So yeah, with motivation and persistance, you might actually make a living off of it regardless of what it is you undertake.

luceos extension development huh? I'm still very far on that end, I think I might just figure out how to monetize my forum with adsense and is selling my forum allowed?

I started out many years ago with a different platform. Initially, I was just employed as a support person, writing documentation, helping with customer support, etc.

Eventually, one of the server devs was having issues with some new tech, and I knew the answer. I messaged him in private, got to talking, and fast forward about 10 years. My job is to look after more servers than I think is safe....

I started out as just a user of an add-on that opted to try to help a few people with similar issues and learn (again, a different platform, not Flarum) as I went.

watchmedash flarum is open source. Unless you use freeflarum or have other restrictions that I don't know of, you can do whatever you want with it.
