It seems like privacy policies get asked about a lot 😅 however, all the discussions I was reading seemed to have out of date information, so I'm here to ask anew...
I'm creating a forum for a small group of hobbyists. No advertisements, no analytics and tracking (unless my shared hosting does something beyond my understanding), just basic user data required for the forum to run. From what I've been reading, it sounds like flarum collects very minimal data, which is great, and should make our privacy policy short and sweet I hope.
(I tried using a free privacy policy generator, but it churned out so much text that is completely non-applicable to us and would be an unhelpful slog for anyone to read 😅)
I looked at the privacy policy for Flarum's forum, and it seems to cover more or less what I'd want (with some minor adjustments), but I'm unsure if it is alright to copy from it. I found this post which seems to say yes, however, that post is from 2018, and the parts that are quoted from the privacy policy no longer seem to be there, including the CC-BY-SA license.
I also found these two posts:
https://discuss.flarum.org/d/9827-standard-privacy-policy-for-forums
https://discuss.flarum.org/d/29637-question-about-privacy-policy
The page they link to is dead, but using the wayback machine to view an archived copy, I can see that it seems like the same text that is used for the privacy policy now. Perhaps it just moved?
If I go back to older archives, I can see the CC-BY-SA at the bottom... so did it used to have that license and no longer does? Is it still ok to use as the basis for new forums made with Flarum?
It seems like the alternative recommendation might be to create the privacy policy based on the one that Discourse uses, but I looked at the one for Discourse and it seems very long 🤔 (I wonder if it got longer in the intervening years...)
If anyone can clarify I'd appreciate it!
