Steps upgraging from PHP 8.1 (native) to 8.3/8.4

My hosting currently has PHP 8.1. To use latest AI related extensions, it seems that PHP 8.3 is required at least. In Cpanel there’s simple drop-down to select PHP 8.3 or even 8.4. What are recommended steps to upgrade my PHP version? Shoild I go to PHP 8.4?

Terhox we recommend to not use a higher version than php 8.3 for Flarum 1.8.X. With the upcoming Flarum 2 you can also use 8.5. If you change your PHP version you need to make sure that it also updates your commandline PHP version. You need to run an composer update -w afterwards to update the dependencies to the appropriate PHP version.

GreXXL Thanks for the info. I have to check from the hosting provider that commandline also updates along with web-side. I think I will choose PHP 8.3.

Before upgrading, make sure all your Flarum extensions and dependencies are compatible with PHP 8.3, as some may still have limitations. It’s best to switch to PHP 8.3 first instead of 8.4, since 8.4 is very new and may cause unexpected issues. Also, take a full backup and test everything in a staging environment before applying the change on your live site.
