Upgrading Flarum to version 2

I’m planning to upgrade my current Flarum installation to Version 2. At the moment, I’m only using six FoF extensions, all of which are already listed as compatible with Version 2. My idea is to remove all extensions first to avoid potential conflicts, then perform the upgrade from 1.8.11 to 2.0, and reinstall the extensions afterward.

This brings me to my question, are there any tutorials or at least short forum guides that outline the steps for a successful upgrade? I’m aware that the official final release is still months away and that using Version 2 in production is entirely at my own risk. Still, I’d like to take the plunge and explore the new possibilities that Version 2 offers.

Bavarian you can explore Version 2 on https://nightly.flarum.site at any time.

If you go for the explicitly not recommend path you can simply change the composer.json to allow Flarum/core version 2 beta and run the usual composer update with dependencies and it will be upgraded.

Please be adobes there could still be braking changes that break your upgrade path and there are open issues like with SMTP mailing.

There's a drop down at the top of the site that lets you change between 1.x and 2.x. I've been using 2.x documentation extensively and I'm very impressed with the work that has gone into this.

I've tried to keep my forum very elegant, clean, and simple, so basically I've only installed the extensions that are listed for version 2, so that the transition to v2 goes smoothly. But since there are still potential errors, I'd rather wait until the Flarum team officially releases the following versions, and then I'll simply update over time as they come out. I mean, the forum works really well as it is anyway, and I don't think v2 is that far off yet.
