Redis on Queue driver

The issue

Hi, I don't know if I'll get much support since it's a niche topic, but I wanted to know if you've managed to run Flarum with Maria DB paired with REDIS (volkay) as the queue manager. The installation is fine, but I'm stopping at installing the extension in the admin panel.

I already know that Flarum is extremely fast, and that it probably isn't even needed; it can already support hundreds of users, but I wanted to tinker with it a bit.

anto0222 all my client websites are running on MySQL + Valkey. (I chose MySQL since it's more versatile with other SQL software, primarily since Ghost requires it). MariaDB should not be an issue. Nothing wrong with running Redis, I prefer it. It makes the software more snappy. Pair it with scheduler and you have a bulletproof solution to start. If you scale further, Horizon is amazing.

KBExit Thanks a lot. Can you send me a flarum info of a config that uses Redis as a queue? I'll try to make it work again later.

anto0222 as long as you setup your extend.php file right and setup the daemon it’s a breeze to setup redis to work with Flarum. Getting those two things right is crucial.

ernestdefoe It seems that I partially succeeded, in the sense that I still have problems with php permissions, SElinux also plays its part which on fedora is quite stupid, however now it works with cache on redis the forum works, only the admin page does not work with this error "An error occurred while trying to load this page."

From what I understand, you're not using Redis because there's a file that overrides it. I also had this error, and while trying to fix it, I messed up the permissions a bit, as you can see. Now I'll try using the appropriate extension.

anto0222 I think you're misunderstanding.
Session driver: redis (Code override. Configured to file) is mentioning the source of how it's implemented. Redis works perfectly fine in my environments. You'll get this message if you implement Redis via extend.php which is mentioned in the official docs.

anto0222 it appears so. Php Flarum info, in stock format would say that the session driver is file (stock). When you modify it, it then mentions file override because it's no longer in its stock form.
You need to be able to take a step back and decipher the message or you'll find yourself in tough rabbit holes lol.

Also to note here, there is session driver and queue driver. You'll see that I have both configured to Redis but you only have the queue with Redis.

KBExit No, no, I fixed that one too, but since I read that message, I thought it wasn't working properly, so I changed the permissions. That's why it appears that way, otherwise it would have been like yours. What do you think about this extension?

It should make everything easier and allow you to disable and re-enable it whenever you want. It should be the same as the native one, only simpler.

anto0222 I haven't used that version. I use FoF/Redis and FoF/Horizon.
GlowingBlue's Flarum Developer is @IanM which is also part of the FoF team and build FoF/Redis. He's also part of Flarum Development as well.
I don't know if theres a huge difference between the two.

KBExit the @glowingblue extension is simply a config wrapper around FoF/Redis for UI config of the settings, ie it replaces the need to modify extend.php

It can be useful for those that can’t or don’t want to edit code, but for maximum performance I’d always suggest setup up Redis in code
