Resofire - A clean, ad-free home for Indie gaming
URL: resofire.com
I wanted to share a fantastic community called Resofire. It’s a great example of how Flarum can be used to create a high-quality, focused niche forum without the "bloat" often found in modern gaming hubs.
🎮 What is Resofire?
Resofire is a hobbyist community dedicated to Indie PC games, specifically focusing on "deep" genres like:
- Colony Sims (Dwarf Fortress, RimWorld)
- Survival & Crafting
- City Builders
- Role Playing Games
The community has a strict "hobbyist-only" policy, meaning no ads, no monetization, and no trackers. It’s just a clean space for people to discuss niche games that often get buried in larger subreddits.
✨ Why I'm highlighting it
As a fan of Flarum, I think the team at Resofire (shoutout to @stryguardian ) has done a great job implementing specific features that make the forum feel like a premium gaming resource:
- Gamepedia Integration: They use the Gamepedia PRO extension to pull in a professional game database. It makes the forum feel like a legitimate wiki and discussion hub combined.
- Smart Tagging: The way they've organized genres (Colony Sims, City Builders, etc.) makes it incredibly easy to follow specific gaming interests.
- Gamification: They’ve implemented the Badges extension to reward active members, which adds a nice layer of community progression.
- Clean UI: They’ve kept the core Flarum "lightness" while making it feel custom to the gaming aesthetic.
🛡 Community Vibe
It’s a very welcoming, "parent-friendly" atmosphere. You'll find threads ranging from Dwarf Fortress tips for newbies to discussions on how to find time for gaming as a parent.
If you’re looking for a new home to discuss indie games, or if you just want to see a very well-executed Flarum instance in the wild, I highly recommend checking it out!
