Flarum 2.0.0-beta.8 released - 2.0 is now feature complete

KBExit hard to say. I think my production 1.8 forum (it's a small piano forum with 10-15 posts a day) hosted on Siteground (a shared hosting) feels a little bit snappier than DIscuss (this forum) but I might be making it up.

To complicate things further, I am testing the 2.0 beta 8 on a Hetzner VPS because I will certainly abandon Siteground and move to a VPS. But I guess the best comparison would be to copy the 1.8 forum to Hetzner, so I compare the performance between 1.8 and 2.0 in the same environment.

I mean, I fully agree it could be something in the environment and I might be missing something simple. I am just checking with other people and with the core devs, maybe they can recognize the above SQL profiling because to me it still seems valid, the SQL queries are indeed a bit too heavy.

CyberGene there could be other factors in play here too - how close are you to the siteground servers (POPs) compared to hetzner?

IanM Supported versions are: 8.3, 8.4 and 8.5

Did Discuss upgrade to PHP 8.5 as well? Will Flarum 1 also be updated to support PHP 8.5?

I'm wondering what the upgrade strategy should be for Flarum 1 + PHP 8.3 --> Flarum 2 + PHP 8.5.

Can we also consider MariaDB 12.3 as supported?

CyberGene please open up a an issue on GitHub if you believe there is an underlying issue. But from all we have seen the plenty of performance optimisations that are included in Flarum 2.x will bring up speed siginificantly. Please include your php flarum info into the report or do a comparison with only flarum extensions and turn on third party extensions one by one.

BTW, before opening the issue, I did a complete copy of my prod 1.8 Forum to the Hetzner VPS where the 2.0 beta 8 forum is and then performed the comparison, to eliminate environment differences. 1.8 with more extensions is 3x faster than 2.0 beta 8 and Claude Code has created an analysis of the root cause: SQL related to tag permissions and mentions.

Now that Realtime is integrated into Flarum 2.0, it seemed like a good time to discuss the accessibility of this feature 🙂

In any case, my first priority is to make sure the forum runs smoothly and that the extensions are compatible and work properly.

Once everything is in order, I’ll take a closer look at Realtime in Support 🙂

Wlork realtime is not integrated in 2.0. Its available as a core addition. Big difference here.

I'm not very good with GitHub, but I'll try. I've noticed quite a few graphical glitches, especially on mobile, but I'm never sure if they're caused by Flarum itself or by extensions.

Since there isn’t a separate discussion for this, I wanted to ask here.

@IanM Is it possible to add Emoji 15 and 16 support to flarum/emoji?

I tried using https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/gh/jdecked/twemoji@17.0.2/assets/ but as far as I understand, even if the new emojis are included in that package, the extension itself also needs to parse them.

If I misunderstood something, please feel free to correct me.

Small UI feedback: the main sidebar is using a combination of "fas" (solid) icons and "far" (outline) icons. Shouldn't they be the same for consistency?
