I just published my first Flarum 2.0 extension: Open Links in New Tab.

It does exactly what it says — any link in your forum automatically opens in a new tab, keeping your users on your forum instead of navigating away.

📦 Installation

Then enable it in your Flarum admin panel.

Here's a solution that also adds no-follow, and does it in the backend before the content even hits the community frontend. As such it won't delay rendering, it will show target html attributes no matter what reads the api, and it won't apply only after the page has been rendered. I wrote this ages ago, so feel free to adapt, remix and republish for your needs 😉

luceos Thanks so much for sharing that! The backend approach with no-follow is really smart — handling it before content hits the frontend makes a lot of sense for performance and consistency across API consumers. I'll definitely study your implementation and look into incorporating those ideas.
