If start new, should start with 1.8.x or 2.0RC for production site?

jasonwch

If starting with 1.8.x, will there be an option to do in pkace upgrade later?

Thanks

Karl

jasonwch If you want to explore the refinements being implemented, do Flarum 2.x. I host multiple Flarum sites and it's proven stable.
If you want comfort now, go with 1.8.x - but the EOL is right around the corner. You won't want to be "comfortable" here. Plus, it is stable, but all efforts for security and development are on 2.0 as a priority. Make your judgement based on that.
Additionally, 2.x does not have as many extensions as 1.8 does right now.

As close as Flarum 2 stable is to being released and how much the support lifespan for 1.x is I would suggest 2.0 if you see a majority of the extensions you want are 2.x compatible. I myself aren't making extensions for 1.x for that exact reason. Flarum 2 is getting more and more extensions every day with new built extensions or 1.x extensions being updated. That's just my opinion.

In my case, I used version 2.0 without any problems. I had to wait for some extensions to be adapted to the version, but they were gradually implemented. No complaints. I recommend using the newest version

jasonwch

@ernestdefoe @IanM Thanks both, may I know are you 2 mentioning the same plugin? or they are 2 different plugin?

Thanks

Karl

jasonwch

IanM any good news on this?

Thanks

jasonwch the FoF/Blog extension which is a migration of v17s Plugin will be released before the final 2.0 release.

IanM

jasonwch the release of this has been delayed a little, due to other work taking priority (a new 1st party extension, and core issues discovered during the RC cycle, for example).

Once I get started on it, it won’t take me long to do, please be assured it’s coming, and soon…

I'm so glad to hear this. Huge thanks for the effort! My blog is great generator for attracting new members through organic search. And I already have hundreds of blog articles which I wouldn't like to loose. Waiting on this before I decide to upgrade.
