Log a user in programmatically?

Hi,

I'm new to flarum, and had two questions:

Is there a way to log a user in programmatically? When a user logs in on my main site, I want them to also be logged into the forum behind the scenes. Sorry if this has been asked before, but did a search and didn't see this question.
Is there a way to redirect the user to my main site login if they try to start a discussion and are not logged in, basically anytime a user would typically see the flarum login box, I would want them to be directed to my main site's login. Is this possible and if so how?
