Unfortunately, I still don't have any measurements to share.
But as a daily user, I can honestly say that discuss feels faster now. The improvement is noticeable from the user experience side.

luceos yes, using core's new FA style feature (releasing in rc.6)

Basically allows a forum admin to easily update all FA icons to a single style (regular, solid, thin, light, duotone). Especially useful where some extensions define regular, and others solid for example. Some styles are pro only of course, but any available style will work.

IanM I remember when I first joined the Flarum community back in 2024, one of my first questions was about making all the icons consistent — some were filled and some were outlined. I overrode it myself with global CSS, but now it's become much more convenient, thanks

The online indicator switching from regular to light doesn't seem very logical to me. The expected UX is to have a full green disc. The green outline with white inside looks more like "temporarily away".

EDIT: also it seems like some icons on the profile page are not affected:

I'll probably need some time to get used to those light icons. My first impression is that everything feels very washed away, the text is already so thin and light, that almost everything blends into the background in the header and navigation. The solid icons previously made the various actions stand out, even if the text was quite discreet.

No joke, just clicking through 2–3 discussions in a row, the difference is very noticeable.

And this is not just a comparison between different servers or configurations. On the same server, the response is already getting very close to the V1 experience.

In hindsight, yes I think you’re correct here. I already allowed for specific developer opt outs for the style switch, and this is a great example to opt out.

Those particular icons are from fof/usercard-stats - I think I know why they’re not being included, will take a look at the code later.

If an icon is rendered without going via the <Icon> component then the override won’t apply

Tutrix fixed in fof/links 2.0.0-rc.1 - incorrect DOM was being rendered for the dropdown link (when the dropdown did not contain a href itself)
