Flarum installed, but admin area delivers an error message

Hi all, new Flarum user here.

I'm experimenting with Flarum on my own domain as an alternative to Discord for a small Buddhist community I moderate.

I successfully installed the build "flarum-v1.8.17-no-public-dir-php8.4" to my Hostinger account, and everything seems to work well.

However, when clicking on my profile picture in the top right > administration I get a blank page with the error message "An error occurred while trying to load this page."

I have logs turned on in my PHP configuration, but nothing detailed is showing up in a specific log file.

Within the Hostinger dashboard, I can see a 403 error logged that reads "403 | GET /forum/admin HTTP/1.1"

Any tips for getting this resolved? Many thanks in advance!

dhammastudies you will need to locate the error message. This page shows the common places to look for log files https://docs.flarum.org/troubleshoot

As shown on that documentation page, you can also try enabling Flarum's debug mode before trying again, to hopefully see more details directly in your browser.

Do you have SSH access for further troubleshooting?

dhammastudies I had similiar problems on some Shared Hosting. I fixed this by adding the line RewriteBase / manually to the .htaccess file.

It need to be inside the <IfModule>

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
...
</IfModule>

Hi all, I've still not been able to get Flarum to run properly - it's a different "file not found" each time. However, I think I've narrowed it down to incomplete or corrupted file transfers triggering various 404's. My initial problem with the admin area, for example, was due to the admin file literally being missing from my file structure. So, I think something is timing-out when I try and do the initial file transfer. I'll update this thread once I find a resolve for future users to find, if needed.
