Expanding language issues

How do you change the language of a Flarum extension, like from English to Japanese? ...

huseyinfiliz

Charity If you want to change the language of Flarum, you can install the Japanese language pack:

composer require flarum-lang/japanese

Then go to Administration → Languages in your Flarum admin panel and enable Japanese.

If you want to make Japanese the default language, you can change it under Administration → Basics → Default Language.

This will translate Flarum and extensions that have Japanese translations available.

Charity

huseyinfiliz The forum defaults to Japanese. If I install the extension, will it also default to Japanese? Is that what it means?

Charity

huseyinfiliz One more question. What's the name of the expansion installation directory, and how do I find it?

huseyinfiliz

Charity If you want to translate other extensions into Japanese, you can use the Linguist extension. #7026

Charity "vendor" directory, but you should not make any changes to files in the vendor directory.

Charity

huseyinfiliz I have an idea: can I take this extension code, FriendsOfFlarum/upload, and upload it directly to the Flarum directory on my host to install it, without using the Extension Manager to install the extension?

Charity

huseyinfiliz I am on shared hosting, and it's easy for installation to fail when I try to install other extensions through Extension Manager. ...

huseyinfiliz

Charity Charity No, I wouldn't recommend doing that. The extension should be installed through Composer/Extension Manager so that its dependencies and autoloading are handled correctly.

What issue are you experiencing when trying to install extensions through the Extension Manager? Maybe we can find the cause and a reliable solution for your shared hosting setup.

luceos

Charity you can't. It won't register with composer and as such won't be auto loadable.
