Hi, While reading through "Telegram Notify — send new discussions and replies to Telegram" (#39788) I noticed something that looks like a bug related to the country flag shown next to usernames. The user Stezkoy posted several times in that same discussion, and the flag shown next to their name changes between posts, even though it's the same account, same discussion, and all posts were made within a few hours of each other on September 1, 2026: Post #1 (2:53 PM) → 🇸🇪 Sweden — #397881 Post #4 (5:32 PM) → 🇷🇺 Russia — #397884 Post #5 (6:09 PM) → 🇷🇺 Russia — #397885 I'd expect the flag next to a given user's name to stay consistent (e.g. based on their profile-set country or account info) rather than change from post to post within the same thread. Could someone confirm whether this is expected behavior (e.g. the flag is computed per-post from the posting IP, which could legitimately change) or an actual bug? Thanks!

Hi! Telegram is blocked in Russia, so you have to use VPN and Proxy to bypass the restrictions. 😉

The reason is very simple — Stezkoy, like me, is from Russia, and various services are partially blocked for us, so we often use a VPN. Sometimes it glitches and we switch to a different country.

Flarum reads this each time as a new session from a different IP and issues a new flag

Theoretically though the admins here on Discuss could allow users to override the IP based flag detection with a custom selected one... all part of FoF/GeoIP since beta7

jslirola It 's because he uses VPN. Sometimes I do too, especially when Cloudfare is blocked in Spain and have to work in my website (and at the same time want to make comments in Flarum forum)...

@Forogramero We could even extend this functionality to users in Spain who are differentiated by Autonomous Communities (CCAAs); it would be useful in several use cases. In any case, if I need to, I'll mention it in the relevant discussion.
