Nextgen Theme gives your Flarum 2 community a clean, modern, card-based design. It works on phones, tablets, desktops, and large screens, and follows the light or dark appearance selected in Flarum.

Home page widgets

The right side of the discussion list can show:

Popular discussions: five discussions with the most replies.
New discussions: five of the newest discussions.
Popular tags: five popular top-level tags displayed as badges.

Each widget loads separately. Visitors can refresh a widget without refreshing the whole page. If the Tags extension is disabled, the Popular tags card is hidden automatically.

On smaller screens, the widgets move below the discussion list.

Guest participation reminder

You can show a friendly card that invites signed-out visitors to log in or create an account. Logged-in members never see this card.

The reminder can be shown:

Between discussion cards on the home page.
Between posts inside a discussion.
In both places, or disabled completely.

You can choose where the card appears, change its heading and message, and add an optional link such as an About, Rules, or Learn More page.

For short discussions, the reminder is placed after the second post. If a discussion contains only one post, it is placed after that post instead.

Custom footer

Nextgen Theme includes a configurable footer with:

An About heading and description.
Social links with icons.
Two separate navigation groups.
Optional icons for navigation links.
Custom copyright text.

If the About fields are empty, the forum name and description are used. If copyright is empty, the current year and forum name are shown automatically.

Links can point to a page in your forum, a normal http or https address, or an email address using mailto:. Unsafe or incomplete links are rejected when the settings are saved.

Theme settings

Open the Flarum administration panel, select Extensions, and open Nextgen Theme.

From this page you can configure:

The accent color used for buttons, selected controls, links, and highlights.
Where the guest reminder appears and what it says.
The optional guest-reminder link.
Footer text, social links, navigation groups, and copyright.

Save the settings and refresh the forum page. If an old design is still visible, clear Flarum's cache and perform a hard refresh in the browser.

Justoverclock A suggestion from an Admin, based on what users are asking for:
Users don’t care about the popularity of the forum’s default tags. What they do care about, however, are their own hashtags, such as #storylove, #devsburnout, and #weekbook. Why?? Because users always want to be read and stand out. So, if they can’t stand out through the popularity of discussions, they have the opportunity to stand out through their own “#” hashtags, just like on Twitter, where people jump on the wave of the most popular hashtags to have a chance of being seen and read. It’s a feature that users are demanding, always.

Forogramero slight issue. You can hotlink Flarum Tags by using # as a prefix. # meta comes up asMeta ...
Will have to develop an extension that nullifies the Tag Mentions.

Forogramero I can look into building a hashtag extension for Flarum 2. I know there will have to be some kind of workaround based on what @Karl said about tagging tags but I can see what can be done if you'd like a hashtag extension.

then i will add this feature to this theme, an integrated hashtag extension. maybe we could use another symbol? to avoid conflict with build in tag mention?

Justoverclock why did you choose to implement the widgets yourself versus integrating the highly optimized widget system adopted by FoF for Flarum 2?

GreXXL its just a choice, the theme comes with full features without dependencies that i need to control. Maybe in the future (depends on the amount of users that will use this theme) i can refactor with widget system if requested.

Hashtag functionalities thx to @Forogramero for the idea:

Now when a user create a discussion, can specify from 1 to 5 hashtags that do not conflict with flarum tag mention system.
A new discussion filter is created so clicking on an hashtag shows all discussion with that hashtag
discussion list now shows the tags for that discussion
Discussion page title refactored into an header, and now shows also associated tags
new permission for "can edit tag" (use flarum permissions )

Justoverclock But one thing, why do you leave the main discussion column in the center, as if it were empty, wasting so much space. It doesn't look asymmetrical. Why not something like this?

It looks with more personality and impressive. Just my thoughts...

Justoverclock Maybe I'm hammering on the same topic, but since forums are evolving toward a more visual side (especially Flarum, which is very accessible to everyone and will end up being universal), it would be convenient for the index cards in which users have posted images or videos to show their image and video (not using an extension, but by default). Also a small excerpt. If there is no image, then the title and the excerpt. And above this image or beside it, the user's avatar and name should appear (just as all modern social networks do; I know Flarum is not a social network, but you can treat it as one). That way the forum would come to have a theme similar to social networks, whose visual form greatly attracts young people (always eager to stand out and to be carried away by lights and colors). As for the rest, it's beautiful. Good job!
