@f0r3v3r Thanks for writing back to me about Docker.
I'm choosing Docker, for the nearest future at least, for "selfish" reasons. Docker 1) seems to save me time: it is fairly simple to write installation instructions, with Docker. I didn't need to learn about Debian or RPM or Windows packaging. And 2) Docker seems to make it simple for me to change the tech stack, later on. I can edit docker-compose.yaml and replace image: elastisearch
with e.g. image: sphinx
, for example. And 3) Docker now ... but in the future, Kubernetes = massively scalable.
@Franz Hmm I think there's some competition. Flarum is not only targeting PHP users, but also people in general who want a low cost solution? Perhaps you aren't targeting them intentionally, but they'll be "targeting" Flarum :- ) And I'm trying to to build a low cost alternative too, and might then "steal" a few of those looking-for-low-cost users.
But the "most dangerous" competing alternative might be ... Facebook. Perhaps for you too, hmm. Their discussion systems make me feel slightly upset. Lots of people where I live, use Facebook as some kind of forum — but FB really is not designed for serious discussions. Those people don't seem to know about better alternatives. I've been thinking about that for a while (i.e. people using FB as a forum, although it's not a good forum, + other problems with FB ) — and yesterday I found this on Hacker News: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13039606 "I can’t just stand by and watch Martin Z[...] destroy the internet".
... Ok I'm going a bit off-topic. I think FB vs forum software is an interesting discussion — I could perhaps start another discussion topic about that, a little bit later this weekend ...
@jordanjay29 Ok. Thanks for good luck
@luceos Ok :- ) Yes you're correct that I'm trying to build a scaleable solution. Plus low cost — because then I can go after customers for which Discourse and Slack etc are too expensive.
