Agree/Disagree Button?

I was just thinking: The like button means that we "like" somebody's post, but what if we "agree" or "disagree" with somebody's post? I'm thinking that once the extension API is released I will create an extension - but just wondering if anyone else has anything to say about an agree/disagree button next to the Like button?

thecodingwizard An upvote/downvote system reminiscent of Reddit would be a valuable extension in the future, for sure.

If you "disagree" all you have to do is not "like" it. Or just reply to the thread and state in clear and convincing terms the reason of your disagreeing. Of course, an extension, as @Berlyn said, could do that trick.

I too would want this upvote/downvote extension. Berlyn @Toby - would we be able to start wiring up this extension as soon as the public beta is out? Perhaps some of us on this thread could collaborate on github and create the extension together.

But if you disagree anonymously he won't know who disagrees..... 🙂

That gets messy really quick. I like the way Flarum does not now, but you are right, that could be an extension.

Fastidious It's why the bouton minimize is so important in this kind of system. I think it's the perfect way to discuss things. Better than the old way anyway.

God forbid I hurt someone's feelings! Certainly don't want people upset at me. Of course, hiding my disagreement behind a button will fix things up. "Kinda."

If Flarum becomes my forum of choice (which it likely will for at least some projects of mine) I plan to create a voting extension that is more powerful. It would include the ability to dislike certain things, as well as easily rename the two buttons to whatever you want. :p

I'm sure others will do other things with it as well. Extensions is the key.

thecodingwizard Hey, its pretty easy.. If you have some code to contribute, creating a "pull request" is a relatively easy thing to pull off 😉 Meanwhile, have you checked out this guide on contributing to Flarum??

Most of these suggestions for for extensions. What I like about Flarum is that it's trying to do it's own thing without being a copycat of other software. That's why I'm using it.
