Why does Flarum choose PHP + MySQL?

I am not saying PHP + MySQL shouldn't be used. Just want to know the reason behind this decision.

Flarum is already a single page application and it's building from scratch. Why not just use node.js + mongodb for the backend stack?

I'm interested to know what benefits NodeJS has over PHP in regards to forum software? Also, Flarum inherits many aspects of the Laravel framework, which allows database integration to more than just MySQL.

I follow Flarum because it's using PHP so it can be installed on any shared hosting.

codingrhythm Majority of people I know that own websites arent developers and even the ones that are have a hard time wrapping their head around things like NodeJS.

People prefer PHP because its easier to deploy as most shared hosting sites and what not support it. One of the most used programming languages although now NodeJS is rising...but like I said some people just can't wrap their head around NodeJS

While we discussing PHP, will be a caching mechanism for Flarum? Like using Zend OpCache or Memcache? Automatically minify and combining css and js? Possibly as extension.

File-based caching will be the default. Other implementations will be easy to use instead.
