Installation with Other Hosters

Hi, I know this might sound really silly but I don't know much about forums yet anyway, all I know is I would like one and a really good one like this! I was wondering if I was able to use a free hosting thing such as Hostinger.co.uk to host a forum with this. I have no idea how to instal it though ... Maybe someone could check it out and take me through it step by step? If not is there a way to make your computer host a forum software even when it turns off and stuff? If not I won't bother, I don't have any 'machines' to host forums otherwise.

If anyone knows anyone other free Hosting things like Hostinger that might work instead though with Florum I'd be happy to try it out.

FYI, if you'd like to test out Flarum as an administrator, you can always do so on the devflarum.

I've already tried out the dev forum it was great which is why know I want to try get my own forum. As in so others can join and I can build a community

Okay. It just sounds like you wanted free hosting for testing. If you want to build a community, you may need to consider paying for a hoster.

Most ISPs don't let you run a server from your computer. You'd have to check into it, but it's really not something to do as an amateur.

In France, there is no issues whatsoever with that.
If you have a fast enough Internet connexion (like a 100Mbps optic fiber) and a fixed IP address (depends on ISPs) or a script updating a service like DuckDNS, you are all set.
Just need to make sure your machine is dedicated to that, and only the needed ports are open.
Et voilà ?

AshCrafter Have you tried to host it on your computer and once it is working, you simply copy all the files to the server. It will work. BUT this is a screenshot. You cannot install extensions or update flarum the easy way.

Ok, I guess I'll stick with Muut. If you could update me when someone said your making your own hosting, as long as it's free that is, probably not. Anyways.

It's very likely that Flarum-affiliated hosting service will cost money.

Some ISPs will block port 80 or port 22. I have a static IP block and had to talk to 4 techs before one agreed to open up 22. It's just a matter of monies for them. If I paid for a business package they would have unblocked it right away.

You can get around a port-block with a service like noip, but you will not be running a server that will be shutdown, or at least you won't have a community to work with if the service is not available around the clock. You shut off the power, the service is down. No way around that one ?

It appears there will be at least a couple of hosting providers for Flarum in the coming months ? ? While we are not going to be free, the price will be quite reasonable and worthy of the small investment.
