Hey there,
I've fallen in love with Flarum and don't want to settle for anything less. However, while trying to install the forum on my server (hosted at eleven2) I ran into trouble. Nothing but trouble it seems. I've been on it for about 6 (!) hours and I am ready to shed a tear. I just can't get it to work and my incompetence runs hard on my ego.
There are a number of problems:
(1)
I cannot establish an SSH connection to my server. Via cPanel I've generated a key and authorized it. Copied the key to my ~/.ssh folder and tried to access it via Terminal (MacOS) like this:
ssh user@host
all I get is: ssh_exchange_identification: read: Connection reset by peer
I have contacted my providers support about this, but didn't receive any reply as of yet. Maybe some problem with the ssh.config. Do I have to create that file in the first place? What content does it need?
So, SSH is just not available, for I cannot even establish a connection.
(2)
Composer. I downloaded it, installed it and moved it to /etc/usr/bin. Fine, now I can access it by typing composer via Terminal. But, if I've understood it correctly, composer isn't even supposed to run (only) on my machine, but on the server!? For which I would need SSH access. (Maybe the whole concept still eludes me, if so - it'd be kind of you of pointing out my errors.)
Frankly I don't really know what I am supposed to do with it (or where).
I have searched for tutorials, guidelines, searched knowledge-bases, FAQs, but I just can't find the proper procedure that fit's my environment: MacOS, Terminal, cPanel.
I've tried my luck with PUTTY-clones like ZOC but yet stayed unlucky. (It returned me the same message saying that the connection was reset by peer, which should be my server.
This is all I can think of right now, but I think the details of my failed endeavours wouldn't help my case much more, I guess.
So, by reaching out to you: what can I do? How can I install flarum? What am I doing wrong? Where can I get the information I need?
Thank you for your help.
