Incorrect file permissions after install.

After initial install with Composer the following files inside 'assets' were not given correct permissions:
assets/
-rw------- 1 jerp jerp 75194 Feb 18 15:36 admin-7d8fbeec.css
-rw------- 1 jerp jerp 305398 Feb 18 15:36 admin-bcf081bc.js
-rw------- 1 jerp jerp 13345 Feb 18 15:36 admin-en-deb59aba.js

Further, after correcting permissions to '644', updating admin 'settings' overrides the 'assets' folder file permissions back to 600/ -rw-------?

Just as a hint there is no relation between Composer and the assets folder. Composer loads the vendor folder. assets are copied when an extension is enabled (or when Flarum is installed). Files in assets should get the webserver group/user ownership upon creation.

For your permission problem:

What error do you encounter when trying to load Flarum ?
What user is your webserver running as ? Is it jerp ? Is that an actual server or your localhost ?

Did you try php flarum cache:clear ?

That had the same effect of changing the file permissions back to 600.

jacob Sounds like your sever is set up to automatically write file permissions to 600. I would check your Apache or Nginx configuration, it may have an environmental variable for server permissions.

If you're on shared hosting, you may need to contact your host to get this changed.
