My real production site powered by FLARUM

Above all thanks for the jewel that is FLARUM and I also noticed a solid and valuable community

I fully understand your warnings and the risks, but I decided to pass my real production site in FLARUM

I am a software engineer with 25 years of experience, but 10 years ago I left my profession to operate as a professional forex trader

I use a strong software system that I developed in the last years, I'm plenty of free time and I must keep my mind busy while my money are running for me

So I developed a site to help other traders, in particular if they are new in this really dangerous word, and everyone can contribute but only if he wants

In fact the forex is the widest market in the word, with a DAILY EXCHANGE OF 4,000 BILIONS OF USD and, according to the statistics, the 90% losses all what he have, car, home (and wife or husband!) within 5 years

I can help in 2 ways

1) Help in development for what I'm able, I hope also by my site example

2) Above all I want to spread this fantastic software in Italy, dedicating an Italian section of my site to translate all the instructions and procedures needed

Your site looks nice on the screenshot and probably great on a wide variety of desktop resolutions.

Somewhere you need to modify some css because your modifications totally fubard the mobile experience.

Fyi those screenshots are taken from a Samsung S5.

So this is the desktop screenshot of my site, now as 0E800 correctly suggested, I prepare the mobile version... or I'm valuating also the possibility do automatically switch to the desktop view also in mobile

I solved the important observation by 0E800 to adapt my site for a enjoyable mobile experience

1) Resizer extension

Install an extension in your browser to simulate the different screen sizes

I use Chrome and I installed Window Resizer

2) Identify bad displayed elements

Identify the css elements that are bad displayed in the different screen sizes

Here I love more and more FLARUM, the only elements I found were the .Hero advise window and my own custom header

3) Propose different <div> views

I declared 2 different header for wide and narrow screen

3) Split the css according to screen size

I added the code to show or hide the elements according to screen size

Hi, I update the situation of my REAL PRODUCTION discussion board powered by FLARUM v0.1.0-beta.6

I installed 2 extensions, both very effective and I thank the authors:
- flarum-ext-image-upload by flagrow
- flarum-ext-emojionearea by clarkwinkelmann

All work through cloudflarum https like a charme!

I and my followers use the same software to trade the FOREX market and we need a quick and effective communication, so FLARUM is our perfect solution

In the week end I fine tuned the theme, I decided to NOT migrate the data from the old phpbb forum, but I advised my crew, they are subscribing as new users without problems, the discussions are quick growing (every discussion is always closed by my answer) and we already exchanged dozens of files and images uploaded thanks to flagrow without problems

Hello and I update my situation

I installed FLARUM in my PRODUCTION HOSTED SITE for a couple of weeks

It worked like a charm and it was a pleasure to use it!

1) My hosting service

Hosting Package mylighth_Economy
cPanel Version 62.0 (build 16)
Apache Version 2.4.25
PHP Version 5.6.30
MySQL Version 10.1.18-MariaDB-cll-lve
Architecture x86_64
Operating System linux

2) The installation

I come from ASP.NET and I'm a total noobie in Apache/php/mysql and it was the first time I heard about composer

Despite this, I followed the guide I found in git depository and I need less than 30 minutes to install all at the first shot!

3) The use

I suddenly dropped the previous phpbb forum and I put FLARUM online without instructions

All my subscribers migrated easily to the new environment and immediately learned and appreciated all the new features

In 15 days we opens dozen and dozen of discussions with hundreds of file and images uploaded thanks to flagrum upload plugin WITHOUT PROBLEMS

4) The change to wordpress

Unlucky I have to turn to a wordpress site, but only due to my job

I'm a professional trader, and I have numerous followers, but it's me to conduct the trading through a software I designed, and a BLOG where I talk and I filtrate the comments is more suitable to my needs

In fact I MUST keep under my control the trade or all of us fall in a spiral of money loss

But FLARUM was a fantastic experience, if it were not for the needs of my work, FLARUM would be the best choice for my website!

Not really understanding. Wordpress is a CMS. Flarum is a forum.

I'm thinking it has to do with monetary plugins that WP provides.

The answer is simple

Why wordpress? Because I'm a totally noobie in php word, I'm a professional trader and the site is my job tool

I heard wonders about wordpress, but I needed a single day to understand that FLARUM is HUNDREDS OF TIMES BETTER THAN wordpress, (at least for my purposes, no offence to wordpress users)

Now I'm trading, but within the day I'll return to FLARUM WITH NO DOUBT!!!

Et voila BACK TO FLARUM, it's already online IN PRODUCTION

I had a pause and IN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES I could fully restore FLARUM from my backup (another point in favor!)

Now I can resume my experience as site manager

1) ASP.NET + DOT NET NUKE

For several years I used the classical DOT NET NUKE as blog as forum

It's a wonderful product, but it's a general CMS so it's by force MAMMOTH and it grew and grew

Probably you know how strict is ASP.NET hosting policy about disk and database occupation

In brief, the cost became too large for the stage of my site at that time

2) phpbb

Then I migrated to Apache + php + mysql with one of the more classic solution: a phpbb forum

I kept it online for a couple of years, but the problem was the small participation

I don't know why, but I follow several hundreds of traders with my software system... and only few dozens used the forum, all the others used a direct mailing with me

3) Discourse

I payed a droplet to test the system, but it's very complex and rigid, beside you must use their resources for every customization (= pay, pay and pay)

4) EVENTUALLY THE END: FLARUM

So I found FLARUM presented as the best innovative and promising system, with a growing base and an active community

...and I can CONFIRM!

...and the confirmation! FLARUM is back since a couple of hours and my followers have already opened dozens of new discussions and they are also talking and exchanging files/images between them

This never happened in two years while I used phpbb

The reality is that using FLARUM is an enjoy!

In a second you are subscribed, the use is instinctive and you always discover new features and new stimulus

In my world it's a common habit that other enter the various forums only to sell their courses or videos or so on...

I clear my site and I block this kind of users at least once every day

I reflected on Liberty's observation and I'm understanding that FLARUM is really based on DISCUSSIONs and UNITED COMMUNITY...

I must clear my mind from the idea of the classic forum where I'm an anonymous user that should present myself every time... ?

Please let's me recover my error publishing the complete AWSTAT data from my host

phpbb peek in January 2007 after over 6 months of use = 76 unique visitors
FLARUM SKYROCKETING = suddenly unique visitors jumped to over 10 times vs phpbb
Look at he visits number and pages = the enormous increase of returning visitors
...and March has yet to finish!
