You sure you did not mean nginx front, apache back? As in nginx as reverseproxy for apache?

My experience is that Nginx is good at static content, and apache is good at dynamic content.
Alas, it really depends on your intended use.

A Nginx VS Apache can go both ways depending on what is put into the equation.
