You should not have to as there is no change in the DB structure between the 2

yemgi That is not true. The database structures are completely different.

You won't be able to upgrade FluxBB/esoTalk to Flarum for a while – not until Flarum is stable.

I think @yemgi may have been talking about the difference between FluxBB 1.5.6 and 1.5.8.

Nontheless, upgrading from FluxBB to Flarum should be possible using any 1.5.x version, but as Toby said, only when Flarum reaches final.
