Which one should I choose:
Linode ($5) or DO ($5) for Flarum hosting?

The only thing I can think of is linode comes with 1gb ram and DO 512MB, which means linode may well work better for you.

Both are good, you can choose what you want and you will do a good decision. But as Kulga pointed, 1GB RAM will be better, at least during Flarum's install process.

I not tested Linode, but tested DO with 512MB RAM and you will need to create an swap to install Flarum with composer.

Anyway we are here to help if one problem appears ?

I just went through this issue and ended up with vultr.com. Also check out serverpilot.

I'm hosting a Flarum forum for 1 year with DO. Once I accidentally deleted all users with a DB query and the weekly backup saved my day, so I sticked to them. With around 200 users and a few posts per day my VM is almost all the time at 0.1% CPU and 60% memory utilisation. Flarum is pretty lightweight and I would focus more on creating a great community then overanalysing VM providers. You can always easily scale up with 1 click.

P.S. I agree with Richard vultr.com gives you the best performance for your money now. But I guess it will change with time when they try to increase their profit margin.
